Shoes. Food. More Food.
This week I feel like I’ve been eating more than I’ve been seeing. A clear sign for trouble ahead.
Anyhooooo. Food is still on my top list of things to see + do. So to make me look less hungry all the time, I’m going to start with craft and end with fashion and pack all the food in the middle. Like a sandwich.
On Sunday I wandered into the city and up, up, up Flinders Lane to Craft Victoria. Emma Greenwood was presenting her tools, her stunning boots and talking about “the unique sculptural process of bespoke shoe making” (stolen from here). Pretty epic for me. I know nothing about shoe making. But I love hearing artisans speak about their work. She was precious about her boots (which had cross stitching in them), a funny speaker (man tools & lady tools) and a real perfectionist. It was a real treat. Pictured here are her super cool stamp sandals.

Also on exhibition, are works by Gracia Haby & Louise Jennison – A Key to Help Make Your Own World Visible. A beautiful collection of prints and concertinas and books too. So delicate and precious, what I’m showing here really doesn’t capture it all. There were precious jewellery illustrations as well. You’ll have to see it yourself – and you have a month to make it.

Saturday night, I went with some friends to Afghan Gallery Restaurant in Fitzroy. I’ve already been there – and I feel like a bit of regular (although I really don’t qualify). Top secret if you ever go – ask to be seated upstairs. Theres low seating, so you can feel like a Maharaja. Or not. Always lovely – I adore their leek pastry entrée, they look a bit like samosas, but are so different. And theres just something about those lampshades. I should really have captured the aesthetics, but those lampshades look so lovely.

Last night, Roshers and I went to Enlightened Cuisine. I adore mock meat. And thankfully, so does Rosh. Warning – if you like meat, and expect it to taste exactly like meat, this isn’t usually the case for mock meats. But if you’re a vegetarian and love tofu, you might love it. They have an elaborate menu, friendly service, a freezer stocked for you to take some meat home and I know for sure, that they produce Birthday music on demand. Rosh & I both recommend the Chicken with Cashews.

Thanks to jeremyomeara on Twitter, I managed to notice these gorgeous bushes, trimmed to make, what look to me, like tiki faces. Had to stop and take a picture. Yay for some personality in Hawthorn. Speaking of which, Mozi has moved up the ladder. They initially had a pop-up store on Glenferrie Road and now they’ve got a big stunning store. So pretty. It smells divine, possesses books on print, wrapped soap with a paper ikat print, pomegranate hand cream (Mothers Day = Sorted) and is a real treat.

PPS – did I mention after Afghan Gallery, we went to San Churro? I heard you sigh. I did. Truly. It was good. But anything coated in a rich, sensuous dark chocolate would be damn good. Sigh, sigh, sigh.

And lastly, the lovely ladies at the Creative Women’s Circle, have a new event coming up. Its on the 14th of November, and will feature Stephanie Carello, creator of chic Melbourne label alabakov. (Stolen text again).
Women. Fashion. Business. Means you’ll want to RSVP here nowish. Do it – I’ll see you there.

And lastly (yet again) – I feel like I don’t mention enough design – maybe that’s because I’m submerged in it all day and food is a great distraction? But here are a few links that I wanted to share.
Dialogue on the ANZ Rebrand
Casual take on religion. Made me giggle. Theres a flowchart, that’s design related right?
Did you adore Dali? I don’t know how you’ll feel about this, but it definitely made me smile.
A fantastic article on Google Wave by Frances Jones.
Westpac has a new website design – they haven’t gotten to the online banking yet (as pointed out by seunjinbing) – but so far so good.
Bicycle Film Festival. Which reminds me of my 26 things list. Roshers and I are going to bike together – maybe we could have a team of cyclists so I wouldn’t feel so scared? But if possible, could you be slow uphill, so I feel better? Thanks.
That’s all folks. Have a gorgeous, glorious weekend and if you’re by any chance house hunting, I hope it goes extremely well.

Hey Miss Kish,
Glad to hear your take on the day at Craft Vic, you seem to have read me to a T, I sure am a perfectionist!
Thanks for coming,
Emma x
Emma – your talk was so inspiring, I like the casual way you can talk geek shoe talk – a great cross over for the graphic designer on the receiving end! All the best + will hopefully find you again soon
