Claude (the Bird) celebrated his first birthday on Saturday.
The timing was perfect – with the High Street Arcade Markets, Miss Claude was sharing lamingtons for the perfect midday treat. Since I saw her last, Miss Claude is looking more and more resplendent. It was lovely to hear people walk into her store and say “That smells divine!”. It’s a phrase I’ve become accustomed to whenever I visit Miss Claude. At Claude (the Bird) are Elke, Penelope Durston, Ess Laboratory, Munk and Klei and more, more, more made in Australia.

At the Dockland Markets on Sunday, I found Box My Garden. The best answer I’ve found so far, for apartment dwellers and home owners alike for their backyard (or lack of one). Owned by a couple who thought they were retiring till their daughter wanted a box. The boxes can be custom made, and guess what, you can get them with wheels ! So you now have, a portable garden. And if you’re a bit like me, and like a sit down every now and then, they make them with seats on the edges as well. Delightful. In other sad news, I think my little basil plant is withering away. I may have overwatered it? Too much affection me thinks. If you have any advice for the simple gardener – please comment!

Dead Man Espresso is newish and already packed for summer. Quietly away from the people and bustle, this is perfect Sunday morning, read the paper, get away type material. They ticked all my aesthetic boxes, light coming in and lit well, wood, wood, wood and traces of black on the décor. I like muchly. I was having a chat to the co-owner (I think) – who said, they came back from honeymoon and decided ‘this is it’! Had it up and running in 4 months and haven’t looked back. Lovely people, gorgeous space. Did I mention I had the finest French toast with grilled pineapple? Pictured here to make you drool and sigh and find your way to South Melbourne.

I am so surprised I found this stunning chic at David Jones – in that little food deli place underneath. My picture doesn’t do her any justice. Her hair was the two-tone look – ombre – but without the fade-in-fade-out element. She had the blackest eyes, the most effortless of dresses (but cut so right) and shoes that surprised me when I saw them. Best of all, were her watch (one of those things that you imagine she would have got from her grandma) and tattoos. – think black lines on pale skin. It’s still on my to-do-not-yet-done list.

Quilling. I had seen this style of quilling earlier this year – and I couldn’t believe it was made of thin strips of paper. Then on Sunday, I saw this outside Myers. Personally, it looks too similar to Yulia’s style. Did they commission her? I would like to know.

Last night I went to Wabi Sabi for dinner with JetsettingJoyce. It was delightful. Joyce is a blogger as well – responsible for the site Hot Or Not – great reviews on Melbourne - food + art + more. She also cycles everywhere and does it in stunning heels. My first taste of sesame seed ice cream and green tea cheese cake is thanks to her. For more pictures of the food, click here – she’s sure to upload them soon. As for Wabi Sabi, my highlight was the toilets. A cd player in the toilet, Japanese posters, and “keepers of toilet paper” make it a trip worthwhile. And the dessert of course. Thanks Joyce.

Lastly, thanks to my sweet pea V, I realised most of you would have skimmed past last weeks links. People like pictures. I get it. So now, less talk, more pic.

That’s all folks. Have a warm week and don’t get toasted.
Hi Miss Kish
Thanks for a very enjoyable dinner at Wabi Sabi and for your lovely photos!
Also, am so inspired by your post this week – love the quilling, the pale girl and most of all the plant boxes! I want one (or a couple) for my balcony. Will investigate – thanks for the tip.
Jetsetting Joyce
Pleasure treasure!
Glad you liked the plant boxes, the couple selling them were genuinely lovely. Looking forward to blogging about our trip to the Chinese grocery store.

I thought the EXACT same thing walking past that Myer window. Well, actually I thought “Hmm, trawling blogs for inspriration much, Myer?” I hope it was comissioned…
Also – planter boxes! So rad!
Hi Tess, Sorry delayed response – crazy busy
I sure hope it was commissioned – but you know what – I reckon they couldn’t afford more than one quilled piece, cause there is only 1 !! As opposed to running a series. It looks quite repetitive instore.
Planter Boxes – I want !! So cool !
