BREAKING NEWS (well not really breaking, but very recent). AOL Aol. gets a rebrand by Wolff Ollins. Press release from Aol. here. Design O’Blog writes an article. PSFK provides a summary. The Independent doesn’t give it much attention. Brand New gives a thorough overview and the troubles with the design.

What a week. V is leaving me for a couple of days and I’m taking bookings for anyone who wants to do lunch, dinner or breakfast with me. I don’t eat well alone and sometimes playing Solitaire makes me feel tragic. Meanwhile, onto more “winner Kish” things…

Thanks to twitter, I got a free hair cut! I now have a very swish bob-cut thanks to the lovely ladies + guy at Blondes to Brunettes. If you would like a free cut – get in quick, they need 3 models for Monday. You don’t have to be on twitter (I can hear your relief…. God, if you had to sign up to another online account, it would be tragic) – details are:

Blossom Thai. It’s quite rare that I will adore something which is minus aesthetics. Blossom Thai does have a few textured paintings, but it’s quite “Toorakey”. Their food and service however, are always excellent. My mum and I first visited back in 2006 the night I found out I had got my sweet little apartment in South Yarra. Since then I’ve been back again and again and it is always as sweet.

Hinny. I’ve been eyeing Hinny for a while now. I saw Noni with her wares at another design market earlier in the year, and I saw her on Saturday at The Order of Melbourne. I adore her elephant necklace (personal favourite) especially the finger printed ears. You can buy her here and here.

Hire a Bike for free! At Little CreaturesDining Hall on Brunswick Street. Little Creatures is super cool – the waiters are super friendly + lovely and it’s the perfect place to just hang / vegetate / co-exist in harmony, that sort of thing. In other news, my sweetpea got fined $292 for doing a red light on his bicycle….
I think – YES, if he did a red light, he should be fined. I think NO, not $292.
Can you tell me what YOU think?

Johnston Street Fiesta wasn’t what I expected. I put it down to bad weather and a relatively late attendance (3pm ish). But the FOOD. Food always seems to make everything better. Quesadillas, Pupusas, Corn and Churros. If you feed me, I will always come back…

The Hive wrapped up 2009 with Tony Wheeler from the Lonely Planet. Held at Collins Quarter because The Order of Melbourne was too small, cool people packed up the venue. I went with JetsettingJoyce, S & V. Stuck in my head – at one point in time, he only had $0.27 in his pocket. What I adore about him – he still travels. This year he went to 5 more countries he has never been to. It’s one thing to make money from your job – a total other thing to love it and live it. Big thanks to the Hive for these free events – they have been monumental to this little designer in Hawthorn! Read more detail about this epic event here and here and see some pics here.

Joyce had her hot shoes on. This picture does them very little justice – I need a photoshoot on a summers day. They blend from a deep orange, through to a warm, red and ending at a deliciously dark maroon bordering on black. It’s all about the smooth fluid blends of the shades.Bought from San Marina in Toulouse, France.

Of course, the fact that she can ride a bike on these shoes just wins me over again!

First the Myers Wish Campaign. And now the Starbucks Wish Campaign. Wish must be the catch word this season… I’ve done a search for Starbucks and Rob Ryan – no collaboration apparent (I didn’t expect one either). This irks me. The style is so Rob Ryan but with all the lack of finesse (character, quirkiness, warmth) from Starbucks. “Argh” is the only word to define my feelings at the moment. Of course there are others, but Miss Kish is a real pro.

Have a lovely week + hope you’re looking forward to summer breaks and if you want to grab a meal to save Kish from dining alone – as well as save V from his $292 crazy bike fee, get in touch!! (That doesn’t include poking on Facebook).

    OK this is getting crazy.

We are inadvertantly stalking each other. Not only did we catch up at The Hive (thanks for the shoe pic too!) but:

    1. I was also at Johnston St Fiesta
    2. I was also at Order of Melbourne
    3. I am going to Blondes to Brunettes next Monday night (great haircut btw).
    4. I love Rob Ryan

See you out and about next week!

I don’t know how to feel about AoL… It’s an interesting idea but how will they use the logo if it was to appear alongside others, just slap a goldfish or Paris Hilton behind the letters? I don’t know…

I’m loving your photos by the way :)

Sad that the lovely V is leaving you but glad that me and my man get to have you stay with us for a few nights! Can’t wait…bring on popcorn, pjs and the luxury of tv (you’ll leave wishing you took my advice already and bought one!) x x x

Joyce – how was Blondes & Brunettes? I didn’t see you at Order of Melbourne – I guess there are only so many events on in Melbourne that you and I would go to ;)

Billie !!! Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the Aol. I think it exposes them to a lot of risk – it’s like says “our target market is EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING – and the result being, you appeal to very few?? I also think – the white space, cut out shapes is a bit Web 2.2 and overkill. Hmmmm….At the same time, massive respect for Wolff Olins !! They always think fully out of the box + are super original – I do however, wonder how much the client guided the brief….

Jess Bo !! – Bring it is right :) I know, I know. The facilities my home has are limited to reading and baking. Tragic….See you soon ! :)

Kish!! Omg I did that exact same search for the Rob Ryan / Starbuck collab. I love Rob’s work… even did a project at MDS for his work… :)
