Last week, I was part of an art installation in Malvern. The crew from Willim and I found ourselves sealing cups to cups and then to more cups. The end was very, very satisfying. Go have a lookie – 90 Union St, Malvern. If theres a cup slightly off to the side, it’s probably one of mine. If you’re looking for a cool café in Armadale / Malvern and are getting tired of Sugo (I love Sugo) – you’d best be ready for Willim.

Northcote Kris Kringle Markets were super cool. (You can go, there is still time) There was live music, a vegie burger stand, a lot of your regular market stands….. but I managed to find a hidden gem. Flickettysplits. Felicity has made these uber fun cushions. For any brand lover (Stephen can you hear me?), designer, signage person, I don’t know who else…. But I feel like I stumbled on an epic find and if she gets famous I want some of the fame. Kind of. Or maybe I’ll get famous first. That will be better.

The Scandinavian Bazaar at the Toorak House reminded me that I am most certainly not blonde and blue eyed and nor can I attempt to conceal myself like so. It’s really a market for families, you know the type that come with little people and little people handling kits with nicely made sandwiches that have no crusts (my mum never did that for me, a momentary lapse). The cutest thing was the mobile farm. Children can feed guinea pigs, sheep and more. The kids loved it.

On Sunday, Jess & I went to the design markets, the massive one at Federation Square. They were packed. Tightly. I tried chocolate flavoured chai, which was weird and nice at the same time. We both bought a “photo curator” – a easy stick on, flip out system for putting photos on a wall. I bought another card from my favourite card maker – Able & Game. I also found the perfect retailer for laptop cases (sorry Apple only) – Shuky. Made from leather and very, very sexy. I’ve ordered one for the man. I’ll keep you posted on his reaction. We also went to Swanston St for some Phố. Was delish.

I have always secretly wanted to be Bengali. When I was little, my mum told me – most arty people from India were Bengali. They were also liberal thinkers (huge generalisation, but it sounds good), fair and almond eyed. I think I have Bengali eyes. My point is, Jhumpa Lahiri is Bengali. She is also gorgeous and almond eyed and an extremely talented novelist and poet. I bought Unaccustomed Earth and I wolfed down this novel every moment I got. 4 short stories and one mega one. At the end of each story, I felt broken and hopeful for the next one. She broke me with every story. Sigh. I love Jhumpa and because I get a next life –I choose Bengali for the next.

Are you a sucker for romance? I love these love letters.
Have a fabbo week – and for heavens sake, don’t hang the laundry without checking the weather,
regardless of how one you think you are with the elements. It’s just silly.
A new coffee shop within walking distance? The new year is looking brighter already. Love the symmetry of the coffee cup installation and look forward to tasting their brew. Sorry I missed the design market at Fed Sq. Those specs – so chic!
Once again Miss Kish, you’ve beaten me to the Northcote Kris Kringle markets and Scandinavian Christmas markets
I once bought a tube of fish paste from the latter, I have no idea why.
I was at the Design Market too – AND I have one of the Shuky laptop sleeves (the beige one that looks like an internal envelope). In fact, I bought it to use as a clutch bag as I don’t own a Macbook!
