Moral of the Story: Book Early

D’s birthday was on Sunday and I flew to Auckland for the weekend. As you do, when you book early. For all the twitter love I’ve been getting about this being a good #Melbourne blog, I’m feeling a bit guilty. I heart Aotearoa.

Kokako
It was a pretty epic trip for a café/food lover. Breakfast for vegetarians is supreme at Kokako. I had first heard about Kokako via my original physiotherapist – Total Physio. N had a masala tofu thingee, D had the city tofu thingee and because I’m so original, I had mushrooms on toast. Everything was divine & delish. Their menus were super charming – I’ve tried to give you a glimpse, bottom right in a Good decorating and Home Improvement book – with pictures! As well as serving their juices in jugs. Sigh. The details… Oh and the yellow flowers – whose name I no longer recall. So, so right.

N & D recently went to China – I was blogging for you guys here, so I had to say no. They managed to grab some of the collateral from the Langham in Koh Samui. It’s all the details I tell you. Their baggage tags – “Everybody has baggage”. Their note pads “Note to me”. The best bit, their invoices “Missing you already” – that would  soothe the sting. I love emotional marketing – I appreciate the human behind the brand – and done so smoothly, so perfectly. Now I only wish they had everything blind embossed.

Melissa
D took me into Storm – where I found these Melissa shoes. This is my first pair of Melissa’s. I’ve tried pairs from their vinyl collection and their Vivienne Westwood one, and I only just discovered, that they have a Zaha Hadid one as well. Oh wow. They are super comfortable and are dealing well with Melbourne’s weather at the moment.

Takapuna Beach Café does Gelato Smoothies. Choose your flavour and they whip it up. I copied N and had me a Tiramisu Smoothie. It was yum-yum-yum. N & I shared Lemon Scented Hotcakes with Bayberry Compote and Mascarpone & Cinnamon Syrup. I know, somedays my photographs are cruelty. But it really was this delicious – and yes, you really need to book that flight to NZ.

One Tree Hill is a personal favourite of mine. A trip home wouldn’t be complete without a visit. Especially in summer when you can grab your sisters, a couple of novels and trashy mags (of course I meant Vogue and Metro), takeouts (ideally from Fatimas, but if you’re already full, it’s best not to overeat), sunnies and jandals. It is always perfect. Even if theres a fight about who is taking up more space on the mat and who’s hogging the Vogue. Always perfect.

I just decided to put this picture in. A bit more gorgeousness from the Takapuna Beach Club which will make you get out for mushies on toast this weekend. Also note the cool print on D’s dress.

And lastly, when I got back – I found this super cool telegram in my mail box. From the lovely JetsettingJoyce, it was a real treat. She tells me they are very lovely to work with and also do wedding invites. Why didn’t I know this back in 2007?

Sorry about the NZ overload (not really). I’m so smart I checked the weather today and didn’t hang the clothes, least they be electrocuted in this thunder & lightening. Have a safe week and don’t go too crazy with all the Christmas shopping.
