Subliminal

This has been one of my quietest weeks I think – blog-wise.
Work-wise, I think it’s been one of the craziest and busiest – and I love it.

Today I popped into Monash Uni in Caulfield to view the Art & Design Graduand Show 2009, (home to the Miss Kish Masters Degree). So much talent, and so much passion, and they’re still so young. I had a major case of “Gosh, was I ever like these teens?” followed by “Oh, I’m not a teen anymore” moments. I’m hoping to get you some pictures by next week with some sweet text alongside. Fingers crossed.

Berlin Bar
On Friday night, I caught up with K2 & V3. We went to Berlin Bar, I’ve never been before and it was so right on. There was an East and a West. Waiters with dense accents, bearded faces and smokey eyes. A dark entrance (with a Checkpoint Charlie) and barbed wire. We sat in the West – more plush more posh – closer to the bar. If you do go, check out the East side as well, there are huge art pieces – and if you love themed décor, it’s a real treat.

Magnolia Square
Aesthetics aside, the first thing that hit me when I entered Magnolia Square, was “whoa, there are a lot of women here”. Of all the stalls, I saw only one, occupied by a male. I’ve been to a lot of markets, and this was the first time I saw such a substantial gender difference. Nevertheless, it was a real pleasure, perfect timing for Christmas, the best place to pick up hand-made & Australian made (though not all) for giving and keeping. More keeping than giving to be honest.

Pushka Espresso Bar
S2 and I caught up in the city – and managed to find the not-so-hidden-if-you-noticed-it, Pushka Espress Bar. The interiors seem to be ever changing from the pictures I’ve seen online, when we went, there were little ferns in little bags hanging from the ceiling. There’s also a lot of framed art on the way to Pushka, worth slowing down for. Lovely place for an aesthetic peek.

The C.O.T. (Cup of Truth)
Last week, it was sweltering hot in the city, and I popped down to under Flinders Station. I saw the San Pellegrinos from afar and it was magnetic. I asked for one. And this lovely guy gave me my first taste of espresso (I tried to tell him, I’m a mocha girl, and a coffee amateur). But he said “try it”. And I can’t so no to nice people (this doesn’t mean you try it). I got him to write me down the specs: “Sumatran Lington” cause it was damn fine.

I really like the sandwiches at Pushka, although the custard tart was a disappointment last time.

Did you buy much at Magnolia Square? I am debating whether to head to the Brighton market this weekeend solo (it is too girly for RM).

    Hey Joyce,
Yeah – I wasn’t convinced by the food, more impressed with the art :)
Magnolia Square – very, very feminine. I bought 2 dresses from the same stall owner – there was a lot more I would have considered buying – a men’s cream brand called Milk : http://www.milkskincare.com – Thought I’d order some for my dad.
This weekend – I’m going to the Designers Markets at Fed Sqr. and might go here: http://www.scandinavianbazaar.com.au Looks pretty quirky – if you’re not feeling too girly :)
Let me know if you want to come with, you can meet the lovely Jess !
